The Coloma Public Library is committed to protecting the privacy and accuracy of confidential information to the extent possible, subject to provisions of state and federal law. Other than as required by laws that guarantee public access to certain types of information, or in response to subpoenas or other legal instruments that authorize access, your personal information is not actively shared and will not be sold.

Information Collected:
Information collected about you is used to provide Library services. The Library strives to collect the least amount of personally identifiable information to conduct business. Records are retained for as long as required by Michigan State Law. The Library does not engage in practices that might place your personally identifiable information on public view without consent.
It is standard library practice to collect the following information:
- Name
- Address
- Contact Info
- Date of Birth
- Authorizations of additional users on an account
- Materials currently checked out
- Last Patron to checkout an item
- Overdue materials
- Notice history
- Fines
- Meeting room applications
- Event registrations
- Summer Reading registration
- Reading history (if enabled by patron)
- Any personally identifiable information given in emails, web forms, in-person or telephone reference, or other communications is used only for the purpose for which it was originally collected
Use of the Library’s Computers and Online Services:
The Library does not keep a record of who uses our computers, only an anonymous usage count. The Library uses security software to purge personal information and activity performed on each computer at the end of each patron session. For example, usernames, passwords, sites visited, etc. will not be retained.
When visiting the Library’s website, the following types of information are automatically collected and stored:
- Internet domains and IP addresses
- Type of browser and operating system used
- Date and time of access
This information is used to help make the Library’s website more useful to visitors. Data collected is not connected to your personal information or identity.
The library uses Google Analytics to collect data about the use of our website to make improvements to the website and to track trends.
Data collected includes:
- Browser type
- Device type
- Engagement information (sessions, session duration, pageviews)
- Geography (internet service provider location, language)
- Network service provider
- Operating system
- Referrals (web address customer coming from)
This data is collected in an aggregated and anonymized form and does not personally identify you.
Coloma Public Library uses browser-IP-address information and anonymous-browser history to report information about site accesses. This information is used to improve Web presentation and utilization. IP address information may also be used for troubleshooting purposes.
Use of the Coloma Public Library Catalog (through Biblionix) is used to identify users accessing their secure content. Biblionix encrypts all its pages, SIP2 connections, database, and backup servers to provide reasonable data protection.
Cookies:
We may use cookies or similar technologies on our website to enhance your browsing experience and collect information about your preferences. You can control cookies through your browser settings or other mechanisms. However, please note that disabling cookies may affect the functionality of our website. Sensitive personal information is not stored within cookies.
Webforms:
Coloma Public Library uses webforms on this site when signing up for the Summer Reading Program through Google Docs. These forms request users to provide their contact information, including: name, address, phone and/or email address.

Links to resources owned and operated by third parties, including integrated library systems called Apollo, offsite computer services, databases, and electronic journals are employed by the Library. Such resources are licensed for use by patrons. The Library attempts to include user privacy protections in license agreements with third parties.
