The Baker family's long history in Coloma continues with this donation to the town. The small, triangular "Baker Park" that characterizes the south end of Coloma's main street bears their name, as does the newer park opposite it.

Ken Parrigin, owner of Quality Paving Company, Inc., in Coloma, donated his time and crew to the demolition effort. Helbling Excavating donated the use of their excavating machinery. Best Way Disposal of Watervliet and Reliable Disposal of Stevensville carted away the debris at a considerable reduction in price.

In an attempt to preserve a link to the past, some fixtures from the old Baker house will be integrated into the design of the new library facility. For example, some wood inlay flooring has been restored by Rodney Austin of Hartford and will be used as a wall mural.

The last remaining "Baker" house on W. Center Street in Coloma was taken down on March 11th to make way for a new library. The Victorian home was one of the two originally on the site. A prominent sight from Coloma's main street, the homes had deteriorated to a point beyond repair. Nancy Baiers sold the remaining house to the library so that a larger area would be available for a new library building.
